Scope of Design
Telemedicine E.Health Design
What is E.Health?
E.Health helps its users to get medical resources no matter where they are. It is dedicated to seniors and people living in the rural area or even lazybones in healthcare by providing service about online medical consultation, appointment scheduling and healthcare information.
Project Overview
I took this challenge creating a telemedicine application out of my personal interest. Telemedicine has been a hot topic for decades and it suddenly becomes an urgent need when Covid-19 hit the whole world.
As a foreign living in Germany, I have difficulties scheduling a medical service here by contacting the clinics myself with phone calls. With this mobile app, users can find required local medical service, online consultation or the prescribed medicine easily.
Main Goal
1. Help the users to get online medical help
2. Provide quick steps to schedule an appointments (local or online)
3. Help users to get prescribed medicine without going out themselves

Assumption made
1. Users have their medical insurance card verified
2. Contracted doctors using this app for medical service
3. Doctors share digital prescription with E.health

Research
Online Research
To understand the current remote telemedicine market, I have do some online research and try to find the answers to the following questions:
-
What medical resources are required for the customers living in rural area?
-
How many people thinking about scheduling a medical service online?
-
What medical diagnose can be done with video conference?
Key Insights from online research:

-
People living in rural area needs medicine delivery service and efficient medical service scheduling function.
-
Telemedicine app development may be utilized across different medical fields. Among the most common areas are dermatology, psychological and behavioral health, cardiology, chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and more.
-
In April 2020, overall telehealth utilization for office visits and outpatient care was 78 times higher than in February 2020. Around 40 percent of surveyed consumers stated that they believe they will continue to use telehealth going forward—up from 11 percent of consumers using telehealth prior to COVID-19.

Interview

In order to get qualified qualitative answers of users experience seeing a doctor in Germany, I interviewed some friends here.
The top sources of pain were:
1. Lack of language skills, cannot successfully schedule an appointment.
2. Hard to filter out suitable time at once with phone appointment making.

Another research about the service currently served in the market.

What do people need from a healthcare app? / What medical resources are people looking for on the internet?

According to the top 40 telemedicine apps on the market, the following six services are commonly seen. However, there are some services that are not commonly seen in current market, for examples, medicine delivery service, health check results reviewing at home service.

Personas
In order to have a deeper understanding of the target users and the directions to redesign a telemedicine app, I interviewed 15 foreigner people and people living in rural area in Germany and mapped out above two personas. Based on the feedback I received, I sorted out these two personas.

The first is Emma, who is an international student studying in Munich. As a foreigner even she lives in a big city, she finds it difficult to schedule a doctor. The biggest challenge for her is schedule an appointment with non german speaking receptionist.
As for Duke, he's a businessman who usually has tight on schedule. Efficiency and time management are keywords to him.

Therefore, I assumed that people need an efficient (including instant service and time management mechanism), and foreigner friendly service.
Customer Journey Map
I tried to understand the users experience when seeing a doctor online. I visualized the using stage and think about the possible pain points and solutions at each stage.

How might we help the foreigners and people living in the rural areas to get qualified medical resources?
My design concepts are as following:
-
I will need a telemedicine app to provide the users more information on the symptoms self-diagnose, hospital and doctors.
1. a chatbot letting the users to know which doctor should they go for
2. quick recommendation for free slot based on the data the users inputed.
-
To strength the consultation experience
1. the video conference should have a note taking button and users can ask to record the call.
2. The home page shows up upcoming event reminder
3. Users can manage their appointment @Calender
-
For better in housing self-care,
1. Users can set pills taking reminders
2. Users can shop for prescribed medicine online with digital prescription
3. Users can check doctor's oder from consultation record
4. Users can schedule next appointment easily
- English interface for foreigners
- Calendar for better time management
Design
MVP

This is my first design MVP. I manage to have four tabs to deliver all the services this product offer. They are:

-
Home: This page includes shortcut quickly schedule an appointment and upcoming event at home page.
-
Info: Users can gain more information about pills, disease and latest government regulation.
-
Calendar: Users can check their schedule online or they can set pills taking reminder etc. Also, their consultation record and to download the prescription.
-
Profile: Users can input their physical information, payment info, uploaded insurance card

I created a logo for use in the digital environment. The text is designed in a simple, clear and easily recognized manner.

Using Scenarios
A user might use the app under different situation.
I try to mockup so possible usage of this application.

Virtual prescription and 24/7 Pharmacy

We collaboration our service with certified pharmacies. Users can get their medicine with virtual prescription in our 24/7 pharmacy. Combining with delivery service, users can get their medicine at designated location.

Easily schedule a local medical service

Have you ever tried to make an appointment with a clinic or hospital? Usually the line is busy. To solve this problem, this application match users with medical organization and with one click, the users can schedule their appointment.

A med bot will lead you the way to the online consultation
The Med bot would collect your symptoms and ask for your permission to submit your medical record each time. If you have any note or questions, you can also mention it to the Med bot. Once the doctor sees your inquiry, your question will be answered.
Conclusion
I used some different methods to do my brainstorming and created its using MVP. I think about different scenarios to cover the needs of different users. I created the final prototype which really can deliver the product value and solve the problem for my hypothesized target users.

What I am doing next?

-
Usability test of the prototype with real users
-
Research about competitors analysis
-
Better UI

Learning

I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project and tried to create a platform that could bring convenience and trust amongst the different users.
-
How to create a data driven design
-
I did the research on color theory and know how to make the interface looks more comfortable.
